Etymology 2

From Middle Dutch hollen, further etymology unknown. No certain relatives. Perhaps ultimately derived from or related to a zero-grade of Frankish *halþijan (to incline, tilt), if the sense evolution was 'to bend' > 'to move in a bending way' > 'to hasten, to run.'[1]
