Learned borrowing from Latin dēpōnere, present active infinitive of dēpōnō (“lay down, set aside”).

depor (first-person singular present deponho, first-person singular preterite depugem or depus, past participle deposto, reintegrationist norm)
While depoñer is the more widespread form of this verb, some Galician-speaking regions favor the form depor and the correspondingly different conjugation.
