Ridderkerk
First attested as riderkerke in 1280-1287. Compound of the toponym Riede (likely derived from the dative singular form of Old Dutch riet (“reed”)) and Middle Dutch kerke (“church”). The first element was gradually reinterpreted to ridder (“knight”).
