History

During its project to host the 2000 Summer Olympics, Sydney promised that transportation around the city during the Games would be done exclusively by public transport. For this to happen, the city only built a new transport hub, but did not purchase any new modes. Only minimal car parking space was provided, with the intension that most people went to the competition venues using the public transport. This also involved the creation of a railway line. However, this project still left parts of the city without access to sustainable and affordable forms of public transport. To address this, a series of new bus routes were devised. These services commenced in 1998 in conjunction with the Sydney Royal Easter Show moving from Moore Park to the Olympic venue.[1] With a few adjustments, these remain today. The routes operate at events such as the Royal Easter Show, State of Origin and NRL Grand Final as decreed by the State Government.[2]
