Rampurhat Junction railway station is 7th busiest railway stations of Eastern Railway zone and it is the largest and busiest railway station of Birbhum district of West Bengal. It is a NSG-3 category and Class A station. The station is under Howrah railway division is the 3rd busiest station in this division after Howrah and Burdwan railway station. It is 207 kilometres (shortest route) away from Howrah Junction. This station is famous for giving service to Rampurhat city and its connectivity with the neighbouring districts and states and also for the Hindu pilgrims visiting to Tarapith Maa Tara Temple which is just 9 km away from the station. Station code RPH, it is the railway station serving the city of Rampurhat.[1] Rampurhat station is connected to Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, Dhanbad, Gaya, Ranchi, Asansol, Jamalpur, Bhagalpur, Siliguri, Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Agartala and almost every part of India. More than 130 express and passengers trains including 19 originating trains pass through the Rampurhat station everyday. This station has also a Marshalling Yard for Goods Trains , carshed for passenger rakes and engines and has 2 cabin, named East Cabin and West Cabin.

The track from Dumka to Rampurhat become operational in June 2015 with Single Line Electrification. The distance between Jasidih and Rampurhat is reduced by 140 km, from previous about 270 km via Asansol.[2]
The major facilities available are waiting rooms(Both AC & NON AC), computerized reservation facility, reservation counter, and two-wheeler vehicle parking.[3] The vehicles are allowed to enter the station premises. This station has its own 140 ton rail-crane, Accident Relief Medical Van(ARMV), Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van(SPARMV), 2 OHE (Overhead Equipment) inspection car and two Dynamic Tamping Express 09-3X.The station also has STD/ISD/PCO Telephone Booth, free WiFi (provided by Google and RailWire), ATM Counter, Toilets,Running Room (86 Beds) , Crew Booking Lobby , 4 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines(ATVM) , Parcel Booking Points (Contact No : 29614) , Goods Trains Dealing points, Health Units ( Contact No: 29766 , 29762 , 8759656564) , Food Court, Tea Stall and Book Stall. It also has both NON-AC and AC Retiring room, Upper Class waiting Room (For Adult : 10 INR per hour ; For Child : 5 INR per hour) and Dormitories which can be booked online through IRCTC and also at the Office of the Senior Booking Clerk situated on platform 1.This station also has water supplying pipe at each platform for water filling into passenger trains and 3 "Indian oil" tanks for Goods train(Average daily Issue : 41 KL).[4] There is also a nearby bus stand to travel Dumka , Deoghar etc.
Rampurhat station has 6 platforms. It is a standard on ground structure with roof. There are escalators and lifts for all the platforms along with 3 foot overbridges.Each Platform has developed with IPIS (Integrated Passenger Information System) under Phase-I Works of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme which includes Coach Guidance Display Board(CGDB),Train Indication Board(TIB),PC Based Announcement and Platform Display Board(PDB)."One Station One Product(OSOP)" stall also available at PF1.Each Platform is highly secured with 60 Digital Modern CCTV Cameras.
Rampurhat is mainly famous for Maa Tara Temple situated at Tarapith under Rampurhat Sub-division which is a prominent Tantric temple dedicated to the "Goddess Tara" and It's one of the 52 Shakti Peethams of India.Tarapith is also famous for Tantric saint Bamakhepa, who worshipped in the temple and resided in the cremation grounds. His ashram is also located in bank of Dwaraka river and close to the Tara temple.A sacred place near the temple named Tarapith Maha Smashan that's known for its tantric rituals.A pink temple dedicated to Saint "Bamakhepa" is located near Maa Tara Temple.Tarapith is also surrounded by ancient legends, including the belief that the third eyeball of Sati fell there.
Rampurhat is also known for its historical significance, being a major center of the Santhal rebellion and housing several ancient temples, making it a popular destination for tourists and history enthusiasts.
