Located on the banks of Muvattupuzha River at Moolamattam in Arakulam Gram Panchayat of Thodupuzha Taluk eof Idukki district,[1] it is one of the largest underground hydroelectric power stations in India. The water discharged from the power station reaches the Thodupuzha River (a tributary of Muvattupuzha river) which becomes full of water throughout the year due to this. The power house is located underground in the foothills of Nadukani hill, at a distance of 46 km from the Idukki dam.[3]
