Miss Tourism World was initially established as an international beauty pageant in 1991 in Great Britain. The organization was acquired by Mr. David Singh in 2008. Due to various factors, the pageant was not held in the following years: 1993, 1996, 1998–1999, 2004, 2006, 2008–2011, 2016–2017, and 2020–2021.
During the most recent edition of MTW, Erina Hanawa from Japan was crowned Miss Tourism World 2022 on December 10 in Vĩnh Phúc province, Vietnam. This makes her the second Japanese woman to win the title.[2]
In 2009, the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant was established in China. Over the years, it has undergone several name changes, including Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International (2011–2010), Miss City Tourism Champion (2016), Miss Tourism World - Global (2017–2019, 2023), and Miss Tourism World - Intercontinental (2019).
The most recent competition, Miss Tourism World - Global 2023, was held in Quanzhou, China, on December 22. The title of Miss Tourism World - Global 2023 was awarded to Karolína Gorylová from the Czech Republic.[3]
Through annual competitions, Miss Tourism, and Miss Tourism World Tour provide a platform for these ambassadors to promote tourism on a global scale. The Miss Tourism World Organization unites contestants and titleholders from around the world in a chosen host country to celebrate the longest-running tourism pageant, Miss Tourism World. As Tourism Ambassadors, contestants create personalized tourism videos that are showcased at the final event, elevating their public profile and inspiring others to promote tourism.[4]
MTWO emphasizes the significance of tourism promotion through the embodiment of beauty in its contestants. The Miss Tourism World Final offers invaluable worldwide exposure for the host country, attracting international tourists, generating foreign currency, and contributing to local communities by positioning the host country as a desirable domestic and international travel destination.[5]
The Miss Tourism World pageant features multiple titles, including Miss Tourism World Africa, Miss Tourism World Asia, Miss Tourism World Americas, Miss Tourism World Europe, and Miss Tourism World Oceania. Additionally, continental titles offer governments an opportunity to showcase their national ideas and concepts to the youth of the host country.[6]
Contestants participate in evening gown and swimsuit rounds. MTWO has been held in four continents, providing each contestant with the opportunity to compete for both the overall title and their respective continental crown. All contestants has to participate in the national costumes segment. The Best National Costume Award is presented to one contestant at the Miss Tourism World finale and is widely regarded as a symbol of beauty.[7]
