This is a list of incidents of violence against women in Spain. The Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality publishes statistics on violence against women and counts every death. Also, media in Spain reports every case of violence against women that results in a death.

In 2004 Spain passed a world-first gender-based violence law that introduced special courts that deal with cases where the survivor’s gender is an aggravating factor. In 20 years they have dealt with 2 million complaints and convicted 700,000 people, 72% being men.[1]

Since 2003 the Spanish government has been counting gender violence murders and by December 2022 they had reached 1,183,[2] 377 children have been made orphans and 48 children have been killed.[3]

Spain was an initial signatory on 11 May 2011 of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (CETS No. 210), known as the “Istanbul Convention”, which was ratified by Spain on 10 April 2014 and came into effect on 1 August 2014. The Istanbul Convention is a legally-binding instrument which "creates a comprehensive legal framework and approach to combat violence against women" and is focused on preventing domestic violence, protecting victims and prosecuting accused offenders.[4]
