Anirban Mahapatra is an Indian microbiologist and the editorial director of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) since 2022.[1] He is the author of two popular science books. Earlier, he led an editorial team at the American Chemical Society (ACS).[1]

Mahapatra has a Masters and a PhD in microbiology from The Ohio State University.[1] He launched several scientific journals while at ACS.
Mahapatra writes a popular science column for The Hindustan Times, a leading Indian national daily newspaper.[2] His science columns have also been published by The Morning Context.[3]
