The 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, an international peace prize established according to Alfred Nobel's will,[3] was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo (the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations), for their activism against nuclear weapons, assisted by victim/survivors (known as Hibakusha) of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.[4] They received the prize at a ceremony on 10 December 2024 in Oslo, Norway.

The 2024 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Nihon Hidankyō "for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again".[1][2]

Co-chair of the Nihon Hidankyo, Toshiyuki Mimaki, expressed surprise of the award, telling reporters the thought "those fighting hard for peace in Gaza would deserve it."[5] He then warned of the danger of nuclear weapons being used for terrorism, warning that if "Russia uses them against Ukraine, Israel against Gaza, it won't end there."[6] He compared the situation of Gaza to "Japan 80 years ago."[7]
