2019 Cannes Film Festival
Film festival From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival took place from 14 to 25 May 2019.[3] Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu served as jury president for the main competition.[4][5] South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho won the Palme d'Or, the festival's top prize, for the drama film Parasite, becoming the first Korean to win the award.[6]

The festival honoured French filmmaker Agnès Varda, who died early that year, featuring her on the official poster of the festival.[7] The photograph used was taken during the filming of her debut film La Pointe Courte (1955), which screened at the Cannes Film Festival.[1]

The festival opened with The Dead Don't Die by Jim Jarmusch,[8] and closed with The Specials by Olivier Nakache, Éric Toledano.
