The 2002 South Carolina Gamecocks football team represented the University of South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) during the 2002 NCAA Division I-A football season. In 2002, South Carolina expanded their regular season from eleven to twelve games, an allowance for every college football program that the NCAA would soon make permanent.[1] However, the Gamecocks did not take advantage of their extra game this season, as they did not finish bowl-eligible and had their first losing season since 1999.
