From the looms of this village emerges a captivating garment – the Chedi Butta saree, recently recognized with a prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Chedi Butta Sarees - The name itself encapsulates the essence of these sarees, with "chedi" [Tamil] translating to "plant" in Tamil and "butta" signifying "motif". As the name suggests, the Chedi Butta saree is a canvas adorned with the captivating beauty of nature (plant and flower), woven to life and crafted from threads of fine silk and superior cotton. These sarees are lightweight and comfortable, ideal for the warm Indian climate.
This prestigious recognition of GI tag signifies the unique character and craftsmanship associated with these sarees, woven exclusively in the Tirunelveli district.
