Chnoonau liit im Südweschte vom Kanton Züri a de Grenze zum Kanton Zug. Zue de Gmäind ghööred au na d Wiiler Baregg und Uttebèèrg (Uttenberg). S Piet vo de Gmäind umfasst 62,2 % landwirtschaftlichi Flèchi, 17,2 % Wald, 12,7 % Sidligsflechi, 5,2 % Vercheersflechi und 1,1 % Gwässerflechi.[2] Naachbergmäinde sind Maschwande im Weschte, Mäpmischtette im Norde und Oschte Chappel am Albis im Oschte, Stäihuuse (ZG) und Cham (ZG) im Süde.
Chnoonau isch zum eschte Mal gnamset worde im Jaar 1045 als Chnonowa (1223 Knonowe).
