猶他角龍屬

猶他角龍屬（屬名：Utahceratops，意為「猶他的有角面孔」）是一屬角龍科恐龍，生存於白堊紀晚期（約7640萬至7550萬年前）的美國猶他州。猶他角龍是大型、健壯、陸生、四足草食性動物，體型可生長至約7公尺長。

發現

屬名意指「猶他的有角面孔」，由猶他（Utah）及古希臘文的keras∕κέρας（角）和ops∕ὤψ（臉）組成。^[1]種名gettyi紀念正模標本的發現者及在大升梯國家紀念區（英语：Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument）化石挖掘活動的主要貢獻者Mike Getty。最早於2010年由史考特·D·山普森（英语：Scott D. Sampson）、馬克·A·洛溫、安德魯·A·法克、艾瑞克·M·羅伯茨、凱瑟琳·A·福斯特（英语：Catherine Ann Forster）、約書亞·A·史密斯、亞倫·L·泰特斯正式命名，模式種為葛氏猶他角龍（Utahceratops gettyi）。^[2]

復原

正模標本編號UMNH VP 16784只包含一個部分頭骨。本屬所知來自六具標本，其中包括兩個部分頭骨，將這些標本組合在一起共保存了90%的頭骨及70%的顱後骨骼。猶他角龍估計有2公尺高、約6至7公尺長、及3至4噸重。^[3]

根據山普森等人（2010），猶他角龍的鑑定特徵包含：鼻角位於末端，幾乎完全位於外鼻孔之後；眉角短而粗壯、朝向背外側、形狀圓扁而尖端鈍；褶飾橫向中位的外鱗狀骨低矮並大幅加長（有些長於10公分）；頂骨中位轉彎處呈弧形彎曲。^[2]

猶他角龍的唯一物種來自猶他州的凱帕羅韋茲組（英语：Kaiparowits Formation），^[2]根據氬氬測年法（英语：Argon–argon dating）鑑定出沉積年代為7660萬至7450萬年前的坎潘階。^[5][6]在白堊紀晚期凱帕羅韋茲組位於西部內陸海道西岸的拉臘米迪亞，當時的恐龍棲地是個古老的氾濫平原，由大河道、豐富的濕地泥炭沼澤、池塘和湖泊所主宰，並與高原接壤。氣候潮濕並支持著高多樣性生物群。^[7]此地層保存了世界上最完好、最連續性的白堊紀晚期陸相生物群之一。^[8]

猶他角龍與其他物種共享棲地：奔龍科、傷齒龍科的塔羅斯龍、暴龍科的怪獵龍、甲龍類、鴨嘴龍科的短冠副櫛龍、紀念區格里芬龍、角龍科的大鼻角龍、華麗角龍、偷蛋龍類的哈格里芬龍、^[9]可能還有似鳥龍科的似鳥龍、暴龍科的亞伯托龍、鯊和魟、青蛙、蠑螈、烏龜、蜥蜴、鱷魚、各種早期哺乳類如多瘤齒獸目、有袋類和食蟲目。^[10]
