彩數（又叫運數、手氣、運氣），喺唔同嘅宗教、哲學、玄學、信仰都有唔同嘅解讀或理解，Webster 字典咁講：「一啲冇目的、預測唔到、唔可以控制嘅力量，令到一件事、一條友、一班人、一個團體有利或有弊[1]。」 Max Gunther 咁定義：「一啲嘢影響人嘅一生，睇嚟係唔受控嘅[2]。」
喺廣東話，彩唔一定受控，係可以拎返嚟，好似：「攞彩」，件事出嘅結果有利嘅就叫「好彩」，因為好意頭，粵地區有「好彩酒家」、「好彩酒樓」。
