萎縮性胃炎（atrophic gastritis）是一種胃黏膜的慢性炎症，導致胃腺細胞喪失，並最終由小腸和纖維組織取代；因此胃的胃酸、胃蛋白酶和內因子分泌功能受損，導致消化及營養功能出現問題，如：維生素B12缺乏症、惡性貧血，以及鐵吸收不良造成的缺鐵性貧血[1]。萎縮性胃炎的組織學表現為：胃黏膜固有層腺體數目減少、消失或腺管長度縮短、黏膜厚度變薄、黏膜肌層增厚；常伴有腸上皮化生、炎性反應和不典型增生。

萎縮性胃炎可由幽門螺桿菌持續感染而引起，也可源自於患者自體免疫。由自體免疫導致的慢性萎縮性胃炎又稱A型胃炎（type A gastritis），統計上更有可能形成胃癌、橋本氏甲狀腺炎，以及胃酸缺乏。A型胃炎主要侵擾胃底或胃體，且常並發惡性貧血。B型胃炎（type B gastritis）主要侵擾胃竇，較常見於幽門螺桿菌感染[2]。
