Cîrstea is a power player. Her groundstrokes are often erratic with an emphasis on going for a winner leading her to make a high amount of unforced errors per match but with a high number of winners.[2] According to the Tennis Spy, her long stride means she covers ground while not appearing to move particularly quickly.[2] As a doubles player, she is also a very solid volleyer.[2] Her forehands and backhands are delivered quickly on both sides.[2]

Cîrstea was born to Mihai and Liliana in 布加勒斯特,[3] but currently resides in 特爾戈維什泰 where her parents are from.[4] She also has a younger brother, Mihnea.[3] Cîrstea was introduced to tennis at the age of four by her mother.[4] Sorana's father owns an ice cream factory in Târgoviște.[5] She has cited 施特菲·葛拉芙 and 羅傑·費德勒 as her idols.[4] She is currently coached by Marius Comanescu and Andrei Cociasu.

In 2014, Cîrstea started dating Colombian tennis player 聖地亞哥·希拉爾多.[6] Cîrstea speaks Romanian, English, Spanish, and French.[3]

2005–2006年: Last junior years and turning pro

Cîrstea is a former ITF Junior Circuit top-ten player, reaching her highest ranking of no. six on 26 June 2006. Her best results include a title in the 2005 German Junior Open (Grade 1) defeating Erika Zanchetta 6–2, 6–7, 6–3 in the final, a tournament she was finalist the year before and a runner-up place in the 2006 Trofeo Bonfiglio (Grade A) where she lost in the final to her compatriot Ioana Raluca Olaru after having defeated the then-top ranked world junior player 安娜斯塔西亞·帕夫柳琴科娃 in the semifinals. She also made final appearances at the year-ending ITF Grade 1 juniors tournaments, Eddie Herr International, and Yucatán World Cup in 2005 and 2006, and in the Opus Nottinghill International in 2006.[7]

She turned pro in 2006 and ended her first professionial year as No.353 in WTA Rankings.

2007–2008年: First WTA title and reaching Top 40

In April 2007, she reached the final of the 匈牙利網球大獎賽, a Tier III event held in 布達佩斯, Hungary, as a qualifier. During the tournament, all of her main draw matches were pushed to three sets. She beat Martina Müller in the second round, 埃萊妮·達尼利都 in the quarter-finals and 卡琳·克納普 in the semi-finals before losing to 吉塞拉·杜爾科 in the final. By making it to the final, she became the first 羅馬尼亞n player to reach a Tour final since Ruxandra Dragomir in June 2000. During her run, she beat two players ranked inside the WTA top 40. Next month, Cîrstea played in the junior tournament of the 2007年法國網球公開賽 where she reached the doubles final, along with partner 亞莉克莎·葛萊琪, losing to the third seeds Ksenia Milevskaya and 厄蘇拉·拉德萬斯卡.

In October 2008, Sorana won her first WTA title in Tashkent by defeating 4th seed and World no.64 薩比娜·利斯基 in three sets. She also won her first two WTA titles in doubles that year. At the end of 2008, she was No.36 in WTA Rankings (singles) and the best ranked Romanian woman player in that moment, with only 18 years old.

2009年: First Grand Slam quarterfinals at Roland Garros

Cîrstea began the year ranked 36th, losing to 迪娜拉·薩芬娜 at the Medibank International in Sydney in straight sets. In the doubles tournament, she partnered with 菲娜·杜舒芬娜 and reached the second round, defeating Kuznetsova/Petrova before losing to Black/Huber. At the Australian Open, she lost in the first round of the singles tournament to 辛克·美蓮達, but reached the second round of the doubles tournament with partner 莫妮卡·尼古列斯庫, defeating Ditty/Gullickson, and losing to Dechy/Santangelo.[8]

As a singles player, Cîrstea lost in the first rounds of the 2009 Open GDF Suez and 杜拜網球錦標賽, to 納塔莉·德希 and 多米尼卡·席布可娃 respectively. In doubles, she again partnered with 莫妮卡·尼古列斯庫 for the Open GDF Suez, reaching the semifinals of the tournament before injury forced them to lose in a walkover to Peschke/Raymond. In Dubai, she partnered with 阿林娜·羅季奧諾娃 and lost in the first round to Kirilenko/Radwańska. Cîrstea received a bye in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, but lost in the second round to 葉連娜·韋斯寧娜. In the doubles tournament, she partnered with 卡麗娜·沃斯科波娃 and lost in the first round to Mattek-Sands/Washington. Cîrstea finished her hardcourt season with a loss in the first round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami to qualifier Mariya Koryttseva. Her doubles effort in Miami with 卡洛琳·瓦芝妮雅琪 also ended in the first round with a loss to Kuznetsova/Mauresmo.

Cîrstea's clay season began at the inaugural Andalucia Tennis Experience in 馬貝拉, Spain. She reached the semifinals, defeating Ioana Olaru (in straight sets), Andreja Klepač and 卡婭·卡內皮 (both in three sets) before losing to 卡拉·蘇亞雷斯·納凡諾. In doubles, she partnered with Ioana Olaru and reached the quarterfinals, before losing to Hercog/Ulirova . At the Barcelona Ladies Open in April, Cîrstea lost in the first round of the singles tournament to Anastasiya Yakimova , but reached the finals of the doubles tournament with her partner Andreja Klepač. They defeated Groenefeld/Senoglu, Ani/Voráčová, and Hlaváčková/Hradecká, before falling to Vives/Sanchez in the final 6–3, 2–6, [8–10]. A week later, at the Fes tournament, Cîrstea again lost in the first round of the singles tournament, this time to Lourdes Domínguez Lino and again reached the finals of the doubles tournament, this time with 瑪麗亞·基里連科. Cîrstea/Kirilenko defeated Fernandez-Brugues/Thorpe, Czink/Keothavong, and Hercog/Olaru, before losing to Kleybanova/Makarova in three sets. At the Estoril Open in Portugal, Cîrstea reached the quarterfinals of the singles tournament, defeating 伊達公子 and 瑪蕾特·阿尼, before falling to eventual champion 雅尼婭·維克梅耶爾. In doubles, she again partnered with Kirilenko, defeating Ivanova/Yakimova, before losing to Coin/Pelletier in the quarterfinals. At the Madrid tournament, she lost in the first rounds of both the singles and the doubles tournaments, falling to 阿廖娜·邦達連科 2–6, 2–6, in the singles and partnering with 弗拉基米爾·尤里洛娃 in the doubles to lose to Makarova/Kudrayvtseva 6–2, 6–7, [3–10]. Cîrstea then had her breakthrough tournament at the 2009年法國網球公開賽. She began her campaign with wins over 卡莉·格利克森 and an upset of 21st seed 阿莉澤·科爾內. Having advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time, she defeated doubles partner 卡洛琳·瓦芝妮雅琪, the tenth seed 7–6, 7–5. Cîrstea continued her unlikely run with a 3–6, 6–0, 9–7 upset over the fifth-seeded 耶萊娜·揚科維奇 to advance to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal,[9] where she faced 30th seed 薩曼莎·斯托瑟, losing 1–6, 3–6. Her doubles effort with Wozniacki ended in the first round with a 4–6, 4–6 loss to Pennetta/Kirilenko.

At the Ordina Open in the Netherlands, she defeated 莫妮卡·尼古列斯庫 in three sets but lost in second round to 雅尼婭·維克梅耶爾. She paired with 迪娜拉·薩芬娜 for the doubles tournament, defeating Groenefeld/Niculescu in the first round and losing to Errani/Pennetta in the second round. At the 2009年溫布頓網球錦標賽, Cîrstea was seeded 28th. She defeated Edina Gallovits and 薩尼婭·米爾莎 in the first two rounds, but lost 6–7, 3–6 to eighth seed 維多利亞·亞薩蓮卡 in the third round. In doubles, she once again partnered with Wozniacki, but lost in the second round to Koryttseva/Poutchek. After Wimbledon, Cîrstea entered the Swedish Open in Båstad, defeating qualifier Johanna Larsson before losing to 吉塞拉·杜爾科 in the second round. She partnered with Wozniacki yet again, losing in the second round to Kondratieva/Lefevre. Two weeks later, Cîrstea lost in the first round of the Bank of the West Classic to 阿格涅什卡·拉德萬斯卡. Partnering in doubles with 瑪麗亞·基里連科, she reached the semifinals, defeating Granville/Gullickson and Coin/Pelletier, before losing to Chan/Niculescu.

Cîrstea had another improbable run at the LA Women's Championships in August, a warm-up to the US Open. En route to the semifinals, she upset fourth seed and doubles partner Wozniacki and Radwańska, despite Radwańska's serving for the match at 4–5 in the third set. In the semifinals, Cîrstea lost to 薩曼莎·斯托瑟. Cîrstea/Wozniacki lost in the first round to Chang/Yan. Her performance at LA earned her the No.24 ranking going into the Cincinnati Masters, where she defeated 梅根·蕭內西 and 安娜-萊娜·歌恩菲特 before losing to 4th seed 耶蓮娜·德門提耶娃. After Cincinnati on 17 August, she achieved her career high ranking, No.23. At the 2009 US Open, Cîrstea was seeded 24th. She defeated 森田步美 in the 1st round and Stéphanie Dubois of Canada in the 2nd round before losing in the third round to eventual finalist 卡洛琳·瓦芝妮雅琪, the no. 9 seed and her doubles partner. Cîrstea/Wozniacki defeated Bammer/Schruff and Azarenka/Zvonareva before losing in the third round to eventual champions Williams/Williams. After the US Open, Cîrstea lost her next five matches, posting first-round losses in the 韓國網球公開賽, 泛太平洋網球公開賽, China Open, Generali Ladies and 克里姆林杯.

She finished 2009 ranked 43rd in the world with a 21–24 match record.[8]

2010年: Struggles with form

In the 2010 Hopman Cup in early January, she played on behalf of 羅馬尼亞 with 維克托·哈內斯庫. Romania was seeded sixth and finished last in their group, winning against the Australian team of 薩曼莎·斯托瑟 and 萊頓·休威特, but losing to the Spanish team of 瑪麗亞·何塞·馬丁內斯·桑切斯 and 托米·羅布雷多, the eventual champions, and the American team of 梅拉妮·奧丁 and 約翰·伊斯內爾. Cîrstea posted a 3–6, 6–4, 6–3 win over Stosur and, with Hanescu, a 7–5 6–1 win over Stosur and Hewitt to win the Australian match. She lost in straight sets to Sanchez and Oudin.[8]

Leading up to the Australian Open, she lost in the first round of the Hobart tournament to 彭帥 1–6, 4–6. At the Australian Open in January, she defeated Olivia Rogowska in the first round 6–3, 2–6, 6–2, but lost in the second round to 阿麗莎·克萊班諾娃 4–6, 3–6. She partnered with 安娜斯塔西亞·帕夫柳琴科娃 in the doubles tournament, losing to Kirilenko/Radwańska in the first round 6–0, 6–7, 6–2.

Her next tournament was the Open GDF Suez in Paris, where she fell to 梅拉妮·奧丁 3–6, 0–6. She lost in straight sets in the first rounds of the Dubai, Acapulco, and Monterrey tournaments, to 弗蘭切斯卡·斯基亞沃內, Sharon Fichman, and 薩拉·艾拉妮, respectively. At the 2010年法國巴黎銀行公開賽 in 印地安泉 (加利福尼亞州), she reached the second round, first defeating 卡婭·卡內皮 6–7, 6–3, 6–4, but ultimately losing to 鄭潔 3–6, 5–7. Moving into the clay season, Cîrstea prevailed over 6th seed 瑪麗亞·基里連科 in the first round of the 2010 Andalucia Tennis Experience 4–6, 7–6, 6–4. She then lost in the second round to fellow Romanian 西莫娜·哈莉普 4–6, 6–7. At the 2010 Barcelona Ladies Open she defeated 塔米拉·帕謝克 6–4, 7–6, but lost in the second round to 伊韋塔·梅爾澤 1–6, 4–6. Cîrstea was seeded 2nd at the 2010 Estoril Open and defeated compatriat Ioana Raluca Olaru 6–3, 3–6, 6–1 in the first round and 米雪·拉莎·迪·比圖 7–5, 7–5 in the second. In the quarterfinals, she beat 阿蘭查·魯斯 6–4, 6–1, but fell to Arantxa Parra Santonja, 6–1, 6–4 in the semifinals. In doubles, she partnered with 安娜貝爾·梅迪娜·加里格斯 to win the tournament, receiving a bye in the first round and posting wins over Peng/Zhang, Manasieva/Olaru and Diatchenko/Vedy. Cîrstea lost to 弗拉維婭·佩內塔 1–6, 6–1, 1–6 in the first round of the Madrid tournament in May. Two weeks later, she qualified for the Strasbourg tournament, losing to Elena Baltacha 3–6 5–7 in the first round.

At the 2010 French Open, she lost in the first round to defending champion 斯韋特蘭娜·庫茲涅佐娃 3–6, 1–6. At the 2010 Aegon International she defeated seed 2 弗蘭切斯卡·斯基亞沃內 7–5, 6–3, losing in the second round to 斯韋特蘭娜·庫茲涅佐娃 with the score 4–6, 7–6, 7–6. At the 2010年溫布頓網球錦標賽 she was defeated by defending semifinalist 彼得拉·克菲托娃 with the score in the opening round. At the 2010 GDF Suez Grand Prix she lost in the first round to qualifer Zuzana Ondrášková.She lost in the quarterfinal at the tournaments 2010 İstanbul Cup to 安娜斯塔西亞·帕夫柳琴科娃 and 2010 e-Boks Danish Open to 克拉拉·庫卡洛娃. At the 2010年西南財團大師賽與女子公開賽, she qualified but lost in the first round to 西比爾·巴默爾.[8] At the 2010 US Open, Cîrstea lost to 索菲亞·阿維德森 in the first round.

She ended the year placed 93st in WTA Rankings.

2011年: Re-entering Top 60

At the 2011 Australian Open, Cîrstea defeated 米里亞娜·盧契奇-巴羅尼 of Croatia 6–4, 6–2 before she was beaten by 莎哈爾·皮爾 of Israel in the second round 6–3, 6–2.[10] In the doubles tournament, she played with 露絲·莎法洛法 of the Czech Republic and defeated the team of Sarah Borwell of Germany and Marie-Ève Pelletier of Canada 5–7, 6–2, 6–2. In the second round they lost to 卡拉·布雷克of Zimbabwe and 安娜斯塔西亞·羅季奧諾娃 of Australia 6–4, 7–5.[11]

In the 2011, Cellular South Cup, Cîrstea defeated 凱薩琳·哈里森 in the first round 6–4, 6–2, before she lost to 莎哈爾·皮爾 3–6, 2–6 in the second round. In doubles she and her partner Anastasia Pivovarova lost in the first round to 安卓莉雅·哈拉瓦科娃/露絲·哈迪卡 6–3, 6–2. At the 2011 墨西哥公開賽, Cîrstea defeated 派翠西亞·麥耶·阿赫萊特訥 6–2, 6–4. In the second round she lost to Laura Pous Tió 6–2, 6–1. Sorana played doubles again now with Andreja Klepač as a partner. They won the first round by defeated 埃萊妮·達尼利都/Jasmin Wöhr 6–2, 6–0. They lost in the second round to 伊琳娜-卡梅利亞·貝古/亞歷山德拉·帕諾娃 6–4, 3–6, [10–7].[12] Cîrstea qualified in singles for the 2011年法國巴黎銀行公開賽. In the first round she lost 3–6, 6–3, 6–3 to Alla Kudryavtseva.[13] In the Sony Ericsson Open, Sorana received a wildcard in singles, but lost 3–6, 6–1, 7–6 in the first round to 鄭潔 of China.

At the 2011 Andalucia Tennis Experience, she lost in the first round 1–6, 6–4, 6–2 to Italian 薩拉·艾拉妮. Sorana paired with Maria Elena Camerin of Italy for the doubles tournament defeating Alberta Brianti/Aurélie Védy 6–4, 6–1. They lost in the second round to 薩拉·艾拉妮/羅貝塔·文琪 6–4, 6–7, [10–7].[14] In the next months Sorana didn't have good results. But she proved she is back in the form as she won 2011 Open GDF Suez de Cagnes-sur-Mer Alpes-Maritimes in France. It was a $100,000+ tournament with a lot of top-100 players. She beat 帕蒂·史妮德 in the first round and compatriot 亞歷山德拉·杜爾蓋魯 in the second in the 2011年法國網球公開賽 before losing 6–2, 6–2 to China's 李娜.

She then made it into the main draw of the 2011年溫布頓網球錦標賽, where she lost in straight sets to 保琳·巴曼迪耶. Sorana played doubles again with 森田步美 of Japan defeating 莊佳容/謝淑薇 6–4, 6–4. They won their second round 7–5, 6–3 against Sophie Lefèvre/ 葉夫根尼婭·羅金娜. They lost in third round to 薩比娜·利斯基/ 薩曼莎·斯托瑟 4–6, 3–6.

In Båstad, Sweden at the Collector Swedish Open Women, Cîrstea defeated 米里亞娜·盧契奇-巴羅尼 7–5, 2–6, 7–5 in the first round. She lost 3–6, 3–6 in the second round to Vesna Dolonts. In Palermo, Italy at the XXIV SNAI Open Internationali Femminili di Tennis di Palermo Sorana won her first round match against 安卓莉雅·哈拉瓦科娃 6–3, 6–2. She lost in second round to 茨薇塔娜·皮隆科娃 2–6, 6–1, 6–1. At the Bucharest ITF of Romania, Cîrstea beat her compatriots Diana Enache and Mădălina Gojnea, before losing in the third round to Laura Pous Tió. She then played in Carlsbad, California at the 聖地牙哥網球公開賽. She was beat by 可可·范德韋 of the United States in the first round 7–5, 6–7, 6–3. Next tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio 辛辛那提公開賽 Sorana qualified in singles for the main draw. In the first round she defeated Ksenia Pervak 6–4, 3–6, 6–3, but lost in the second to Jill Craybas 6–4, 1–6, 7–6.

In Dallas, the inaugural tournament of 德克薩斯網球公開賽, Cîrstea beat 婭爾米拉·蓋多紹娃 3–6, 6–4, 6–2 in the first round. In the second round she lost to 阿拉瓦內·雷扎伊 6–2, 7–6. Sorana played doubles for the first time with Alberta Brianti of Italy. In the first round they defeated 卡捷琳娜·邦達連科/阿廖娜·邦達連科 6–3, 3–6, [11–9]. In the second they beat Andreja Klepač/Tatiana Poutchek 7–6, 6–7, [12–10]. In the third or semi-final match they beat 索菲亞·阿維德森/凱西·德拉夸 6–3, 6–3. They won their final match and the title by defeating 阿莉澤·科爾內/保琳·巴曼迪耶 7–5, 6–3. Cîrstea won her fourth WTA doubles title, while Brianti won her second.[15] At the US Open, Cîrstea lost in the first round to 雅尼婭·維克梅耶爾 of Belgium. She paired with 森田步美 of Japan in doubles. They defeated 凱西·德拉夸 and 雷內·斯塔布斯 in the first round, but lost in the second to 瑪麗亞·何塞·馬丁內斯·桑切斯 and 安娜貝爾·梅迪娜·加里格斯.

In Uzkebistan, she defeated 博亞娜·約娃諾絲琪 and 亞歷山德拉·克魯尼奇, but lost in the third round to Alla Kudryavtseva. Cîrstea played doubles too with 保琳·巴曼迪耶, but they lost in the first round to Iryna Brémond/曼迪·米內娜 6–2, 2–6, [10–8]. Cîrstea won the title in the Open GDF Suez de Bretagne in Saint-Malo, France. She defeated Estrella Cabeza Candela, Eva Fernández Brugués, Laura Pous Tió and 史蒂芬妮·沃格勒, before beating 西爾維婭·索勒·艾絲皮諾莎 in straight sets.[16] In the 林茨女子網球賽, Asustria, Cîrstea played in the qualifying draw with great victories. In round of 32 or first round, Sorana beat Nikola Hofmanova 6–7, 6–0, 6–0. In round of 16 or second round, she beat 西爾維婭·索勒·艾絲皮諾莎 2–6, 6–1, 7–5. In quarters or third round, Sorana defeated 安娜斯塔西亞·羅季奧諾娃 6–1, 6–2 to play in the main singles draw. In the first round, Sorana beat 塔米拉·帕謝克 7–5, 6–3. She defeated 安娜斯塔西亞·帕夫柳琴科娃 the 4th seed of the tournament 4–6, 6–0, 6–4 in second round. But lost in third round to 露絲·莎法洛法 5–7, 2–6. In France, Cîrstea won the Open GDF Suez Region Limousin, a $50,000+ Limoges ITF tournament featuring top 100 players. She defeated Paula Ormaechea, Stefanie Vögele, 米雪拉·克拉查克, Akgul Amanmuradova, and 索菲亞·阿維德森.[8]

At the end of the year, she was in 60th place in the WTA rankings.

2012年: Ascent to Top 30

Cîrstea began 2012 ranked 60 in the world.[17]Her first tournament was in Auckland, New Zealand the ASB Classic. Sorana lost in first round to 弗拉維婭·佩內塔. In doubles she partnered with Darija Jurak of Croatia; they lost a first-round match to Kristina Barrois/安娜-萊娜·歌恩菲特.[18] At the 霍巴特國際賽 Australia, Cîrstea defeated Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan in first round . In second round Cîrstea beat 比丹妮·瑪迪克-辛特斯 of the United States of America. In third round Cîrstea lost to 安潔莉克·克伯 despite having two match points. In doubles, she paired again with Darija Jurak of Croatia. They beat Kristina Barrois/Jasmin Wöhr in straight sets. Cîrstea/Jurak lost in second round to 伊琳娜-卡梅利亞·貝古/莫妮卡·尼古列斯庫.[19] At the 2012 Australian Open, Cîrstea eliminated 6th seed Sam Stosur in the first round. In second round she beat Urszula Radwańska. She lost in third round to 薩拉·艾拉妮 in a match harmed by an early back injury. In doubles Sorana played with 露絲·莎法洛法 again, but they lost to 9th seeds 納塔麗·葛丁/弗拉基米爾·尤里洛娃.[20]

At the 2012 PTT Pattaya Open, Cîrstea was seeded 7th. She defeated Erika Sema in the first round and then 土居美咲 in the second by the same scoreline. In the quarterfinals, she defeated top seeded and world number 8 薇拉·芝芙娜瑞娃 when Zvonareva was forced to retire with a hip injury in the third set. She lost in the semifinals to Maria Kirilenko. In Doha, Cîrstea beat 婭爾米拉·蓋多紹娃 in the first round 6–4, 6–1. In the second round she lost 4–6, 6–7 to 薩曼莎·斯托瑟 the 3rd seed.Sorana paired with Anne Keothavong in doubles, but they lost in first round to 安娜貝爾·梅迪娜·加里格斯 and 安娜斯塔西亞·帕夫柳琴科娃 . At the Whirlpool Abierto de Monterrey, Cîrstea was the third seed in the tournament and received a wildcard in singles. In the first round she defeated 史蒂芬妮·沃格勒 in three sets. Sorana lost in second round to eventual champion 巴包斯·蒂美阿.[21] Cîrstea was the 48th seed at the BNP Paribas Open. She defeated 伊韋塔·梅爾澤 in the first round, losing in the second to Agnieszka Radwańska. In Miami, she lost a first-round match to wildcard 希瑟·沃特森 in three sets.

In Spain, at the Barcelona Ladies Open her first tournament in clay, Sorana was the 47th seed. In the first round she beat 波洛娜·赫爾科格 after she retired due to dizziness. Sorana defeated Lourdes Domínguez Lino in the second round. In quarter- finals, Cîrstea beat 奧爾加·歌弗索娃. She lost in her first semi-final of the tournament to 多米尼卡·席布可娃. In Stuttgart at the 保時捷網球大獎賽 in Germany, Cîrstea lost in the first round to 安娜·查克韋塔澤 1–6, 0–6. In Estoril, Portugal at the Estoril Open, in the first round she lost 4–6, 4–6 to 西爾維婭·索勒·艾絲皮諾莎. At the 馬德里公開賽 in Madrid, Sorana upset seventh seed 瑪麗昂·巴托利(FRA) in the first round 6–7(6), 6–4, 6–3. She lost in the second round to 安娜貝爾·梅迪娜·加里格斯 6–1, 3–6, 7–5. In Rome at the 義大利公開賽 Cîrstea defeated 耶萊娜·揚科維奇 in the first round 6–3,4–6, 7–6(4). Sorana beat 索菲亞·阿維德森 in the second round 6–3, 6–1. She lost in the third round to 4th seed 彼得拉·克菲托娃 6–2, 5–7, 6–2. At the 2012 French Open in Roland Garros, Sorana lost in the first round to 李娜 the defending champion 2–6, 1–6. In doubles, she partnered with 森田步美 and they lost in first round to 弗拉維婭·佩內塔 / 弗蘭切斯卡·斯基亞沃內 2–6, 0–2 because of retirement. Morita had health problems.

In Birmingham, Great Britain at the 伯明罕精英賽, her first tournament in grass, Cîrstea as the No. 10 seed lost in the first round to qualifier 梅拉妮·奧丁. In doubles Sorana partnered with Anne Keothavong and they lost in first round to Shuai Zhang / 鄭潔. 2013年: First Premier 5 final and career best ranking at no. 21

Sorana began the year at the 2013 ASB Classic where she lost her opener to 希瑟·沃特森. The following week, she defeated Nina Bratchikova before losing to 勞倫·戴維斯 in the second round at Hobart. Cîrstea reached the third round of the first slam of the year at the Australian Open losing to 李娜. She then followed it up with a semifinal showing at the PTT Pattaya Open losing to eventual champion 瑪麗亞·基里連科. She then reached the third round at Indian Wells where she lost to 阿格涅什卡·拉德萬斯卡. At the 2013年索尼網球公開賽 in Miami, Cîrstea made the 4th round after defeating Angelique Kerber in straight sets. She fell to 耶萊娜·揚科維奇 (6–0, 6–4) in the next round. At the French Open, she reached the third round losing to world no. 1 and eventual champion 小威廉絲. She then reached the quarterfinal of the Aegon Classic falling to 唐娜·維基克. Cîrstea lost to 卡米拉·吉奧爾吉 in the second round at Wimbledon.

She began the US Open Series with a semifinal at the Bank of the West Classic losing to 多米尼卡·席布可娃 and a quarterfinal at the Citi Open losing to 阿莉澤·科爾內. In the Rogers Cup en route to reaching her first final in five years, Cîrstea beat two former number one players, 卡洛琳·瓦芝妮雅琪, (5–7 7–6(0) 6–4) and Jelena Janković, (6–3,6–4) and former grand slam champions, 彼得拉·克菲托娃, (4–6 7–5 6–2), and 李娜, (6–1,7–6(4)). She lost to top seeded 小威廉絲 in the final, 2–6 0–6. She then withdrew from the 2013 Western & Southern Open citing a back injury, and later retired from her first round match at the 2013 New Haven Open at Yale while trailing 3–0 against 安娜斯塔西亞·帕夫柳琴科娃. She had reached now the 21st place in the WTA rankings.

At the US Open, she defeated qualifier Sharon Fichman 5–7 7–6 1–6 before then being upset by Japanese qualifier 奈良久留美 7–5 6-1 in the second round. Her next tournament was the 2013 Guangzhou International Women's Open where she suffered another early round loss, this time to 博亞娜·約娃諾絲琪 2–6 1–6. She advanced to the second round of the 2013 Toray Pan Pacific Open after beating 尤莉亞·戈格斯 4-6 4-6. She then defeated 土居美咲 before losing to 斯韋特蘭娜·庫茲涅佐娃 in the third round. She then lost her opening matches at Beijing and Linz to 博亞娜·約娃諾絲琪 and 派翠西亞·麥耶·阿赫萊特訥.

By the end of the year, she had lost her No.1 Romanian position to rising star 西莫娜·哈莉普.

2014年: Injuries and Fed Cup success

Being ranked 22nd in the WTA Rankings, Cîrstea began 2014 by losing her openers at Auckland to qualifier Sharon Fichman 6-1, 6-4 and at the 2014 Apia International Sydney to qualifier and eventual champion 茨薇塔娜·皮隆科娃 6-4, 6-1. At the Australian Open, Cîrstea was the 21st seed, but she was defeated in the 1st round by 瑪莉娜·伊蘭科維奇 6-4, 7-6(6). Cîrstea then reached her first quarterfinal of the year at the 2014 PTT Pattaya Open where she was seeded 3rd. She beat 安娜·卡洛琳娜·史科米多娃 6-1, 6-3 and 艾莉森·里斯克-阿姆里特拉吉 6-3, 6-4 before losing to eventual finalist 卡羅利娜·普里斯科娃 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-0.

At the 2014 Qatar Total Open, she defeated qualifier Alla Kudryavtseva in the first round 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. Then, she faced 2nd seed 阿格涅什卡·拉德萬斯卡 in the 2nd round and lost 7-5, 6-0. The following week at the 2014 Dubai Tennis Championships, she defeated Italian 羅貝塔·文琪 in the 1st round 6-4, 6-3 and 4th seed Italian 薩拉·艾拉妮 in the 2nd round 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 for a place in her second quarterfinal of the year. She subsequently lost to 8th seed 卡洛琳·瓦芝妮雅琪 in the quarterfinal 6-1, 6-2. Cîrstea was the 25th seed at both the 2014年法國巴黎銀行公開賽 and the 2014年邁阿密大師賽. She lost in the 2nd round at both tournaments to qualifier 卡米拉·吉奧爾吉 7-6(3), 6-3 and 茨薇塔娜·皮隆科娃 6-3, 6-3. Cîrstea had received first round byes from both tournaments. Cîrstea was the 8th seed at the 2014 Family Circle Cup, but she lost in the 2nd round to 特莉阿娜·佩蕾拉 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(0). Cîrstea had a first round bye here as well.

Despite the poor form in WTA tournaments, in April, Cîrstea made a big contribution in 2014 Fed Cup World Group II Play-offs, helping Romania promote to World Group II after defeating Serbia 4–1, with Cîrstea winning both her ties against 安娜·伊凡諾維琪 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 and 博亞娜·約娃諾絲琪 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-3.

At the 2014 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Cîrstea lost in the 1st round to German wildcard 尤莉亞·戈格斯 6-1, 7-5. She took 5th seed 彼得拉·克菲托娃 to three sets in their opener at the 2014 Mutua Madrid Open but still lost 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(4). Then, Cîrstea succumbed to American qualifier 姬絲汀娜·麥海爾 in the first round at the 2014 Internazionali BNL d'Italia 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Cîrstea managed to end her losing streak at the 2014年法國網球公開賽 where she was the 26th seed. In the 1st round, she beat qualifier 雅歷珊查·禾絲妮雅克 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2. In the 2nd round, she beat 特莉阿娜·佩蕾拉 6-2, 7-5. Then, Cîrstea lost in the 3rd round to 6th seed 耶萊娜·揚科維奇 6-1, 6-2.

At the 2014年溫布頓網球錦標賽, Cîrstea was the 29th seed. In the 1st round, she lost to young American qualifier 維多利亞·杜瓦爾 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Cîrstea was the top seed at 2014 Baku Cup and defeated Tunisian wildcard 昂絲·加博 in the first round 6-3, 6-3 but lost to eventual semifinalist 史蒂芬妮·沃格勒 in the 2nd round 6-1, 6-1. Cîrstea was the 8th seed at the 2014 Citi Open. She defeated 基基·貝爾騰斯 in the 1st round 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 but then lost to 博亞娜·約娃諾絲琪 in the 2nd round 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. At the 2014 Rogers Cup, Cîrstea fell to 15th seed 露絲·莎法洛法 in the 1st round 6-4, 6-2 failing to defend her finalist points from the year before. At the 2014 Western & Southern Open, Cîrstea lost in the 1st round to 9th seed and eventual finalist 安娜·伊凡諾維琪 6-1, 7-5. After Cincinnati, Cîrstea got a wildcard for qualifying at the 2014 Connecticut Open. In the 1st round of qualifying, Cîrstea beat 艾莉森·范烏伊特凡克 6-3, 6-2. In the 2nd round of qualifying, Cîrstea lost to 7th seed 卡婭·卡內皮 6-1, 6-7(1), 6-4.

At the US Open, Cîrstea easily beat 希瑟·沃特森 in the 1st round 6-1, 6-1. In the 2nd round, Cîrstea lost to 7th seed 尤金妮·布夏德 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-4. At the 2014 Guangzhou International Women's Open, she lost in the 1st round to qualifier 佩德拉·馬蒂奇 7-6(3), 6-1. At the 2014年武漢網球公開賽, Cîrstea lost in the 1st round of qualifying to 1st seed 扎里娜·迪雅絲 7-6(1), 6-4. Cîrstea's final tournament of the year was the China Open where she fell in the 1st round of qualifying to 9th seed 艾拉·托米揚諾維奇 6-4, 6-4.

At the end of the year, Cîrstea claimed that she had persistent small injuries particularly afflicting her shoulder.

Cîrstea ended 2014 ranked 93. This is her 7th straight Top 100 season.

2015年: Out of the Top 100

Sorana played in the 1st round of 2015年澳洲網球公開賽 only to lose 5–7 0–6 to 亞歷山德拉·帕諾娃. As a result, she lost the top 100 ranking for the first time since 2008. Next, Sorana played an ITF tournament in Midland. She lost in the 1st round to young American 潔西卡·皮古拉 6-3, 6-3. Next, Sorana played at the Miami Masters in Miami, Florida. Again, she lost in the first round, this time to 姬絲汀娜·麥海爾 7-5, 6-4. Due to her early loss, Sorana decided to stay in Florida and play an ITF tournament in Osprey on clay. She lost in the first round to 丹卡·科維妮奇 in straight sets 6-1, 7-5. Sorana then played at the Claro Colsanitas in Bogotá, Colombia. There, she lost in the 1st round to American 伊琳娜·法爾科尼 6-4, 6-1. However, partnering with 雅羅斯拉娃·施韋多娃, she won her 1st match of the year by beating Mandy Minella/ Olga Savchuk in the first round 7-5, 6-2. Then, they lost to the eventual champions P Goncalves/ B Haddad Maia of Brazil in the quarterfinal 6-3, 7-5. Next, Sorana played an ITF tournament in Saint- Gaudens, France which is another clay tournament. She fell in the first round to 王雅繁 of China in 3 sets 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-2. With the French Open starting on Sunday, 24 May, Sorana traveled to Paris to play qualifying. In Qualifying 1st round, Sorana won her first singles match of the year by beating 波形純理 of Japan 6-3, 6-0. Next, Sorana played 瑪麗娜·杜克·馬里尼奧 in qualifying round 2. Sorana beat 瑪麗娜·杜克·馬里尼奧 in 3 sets 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Sorana faced Verónica Cepede Royg for a place in the main draw, but lost the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, breaking a streak of main draw appearances dating back to the 2008年澳洲網球公開賽.

2016年: Comeback to top 100 and first Premier Mandatory quarterfinals

Cîrstea began the year as world no. 244. In January she played at $25,000 ITF tournaments in 瓜魯雅 and 貝爾蒂奧加. In Guaruja she beat Oleksandra Korashvili, 麗貝卡·什拉姆科娃, 伊爾·泰希曼, and third seed 比阿特麗斯·哈達德·瑪雅 before losing to 蒙塞拉特·岡薩雷斯 in three sets in the final. At Bertioga, she beat Sandra Zaniewska, Victoria Bosio, 伊爾·泰希曼 and 麗貝卡·什拉姆科娃 before beating Catalina Pella in the final. It was the first tournament win after a period of almost 4 years.

In February, she returned to the WTA Tour, by playing in Rio de Janeiro after receiving a wildcard, and here she reached the semifinals, with straight victories against Brazilian wildcard 比阿特麗斯·哈達德·瑪雅 (score 6–1, 6–2), seed no.5 波洛娜·赫爾科格 (7–5, 7–6(7–4)) and seed no.3 丹卡·科維妮奇 (6–1, 6–2), before losing to 謝爾比·羅傑斯 in two tight sets. These performances made her climb up more than 90 places in the rankings. Also in February she played at a $25,000 ITF tournament at 聖保羅 (巴西). She defeated Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers, Martina Caregaro and 伊爾·泰希曼 en route to the semifinals where she lost to 莎拉·索里貝絲·托摩.

In March she attended the tournament in Miami, receiving a wildcard in the qualifying tournament, beating 奈良久留美 before losing to 弗蘭切斯卡·斯基亞沃內. Also in March, Sorana attended the ITF $50,000 tournament at 克魯瓦西-博堡. She defeated Elitsa Kostova, Josephine Boualem, and Andreea Mitu en route to the semifinals, where shee lost to 2nd seed 保琳·巴曼迪耶.

Cîrstea kicked off her clay season in Istanbul and Prague, playing the qualifying round in both tournaments. In Istanbul she beat defending champion 莉希亞·朱蓮科 before losing to eventual champion 帢拉·布尤卡柴. In Prague, she lost in the first round in three sets against Samantha Stosur .

In Madrid-after receiving a wildcard-she reached the quarterfinals, beating 耶萊娜·揚科維奇, 丹卡·科維妮奇 and 蘿拉·西格蒙德 en route. In the last match she faced 多米尼卡·席布可娃 and lost in three sets. Her next tournament was the French Open where she entered the main draw as a qualifer and lost in the first round to 伊莉娜·斯維托莉娜.

She started her grass season at the 馬略卡網球錦標賽, where she once again entered the main draw through the qualifying round, and defeated fifth seed 尤利婭·普丁塞瓦 and 達妮埃拉·漢圖霍娃 before losing to Jankovic. After failing to qualify to the 伊斯特本國際賽, Cîrstea lost in the first round of Wimbledon to 彼得拉·克菲托娃.

2017年: Australian Open Round of 16

Cirstea started her 2017 season at the Shenzhen Open. She defeated 克里斯蒂娜·庫克娃 in the first round before losing to 阿格涅什卡·拉德萬斯卡 in the second round. Cirstea made it to the 4th round of the Australian Open for the first time in her career defeating 伊琳娜·赫羅馬切娃, 10th seed 卡拉·蘇亞雷斯·納凡諾 and 艾莉森·里斯克-阿姆里特拉吉 in the first three rounds. She lost to seventh seed 加比涅·蒙奎露薩 in the fourth round. Cirstea's next tournament was the Taiwan Open where she was forced to retire mid match while trailing to Risa Ozaki in the first round. She was part of the Romanian team at the Fed Cup against Belgium for the World Group II 1st Round match up. She lost the 2nd rubber against 雅尼婭·維克梅耶爾 in a close three setter which went on for 3 hours & 22 minutes. For the doubles, she teamed up with 莫妮卡·尼古列斯庫 to give Romania their only win at the meet up against Belgium.

After making first round exits at the Hungarian Ladies Open and Indian Wells, she won her first singles match in nearly two months after defeating 莫妮卡·普伊格 in the first round of the Miami Open. Cirstea would later fall to 卡洛琳·瓦芝妮雅琪 in the third round. She made the quarterfinals of the Mutua Madrid Open where she lost to 克里斯蒂娜·美拉德諾維奇. She made the semifinals of Nuremberg Cup after overcoming 尤利婭·普丁塞瓦's antics in the quarterfinals.

Cirstea made it to the third round of 2017年溫布頓網球錦標賽女子單打比賽 before bowing out to 加比涅·蒙奎露薩.
