道格拉斯·莫森

道格拉斯·莫森，OBE，FRS^[1]，FAA（英語：Douglas Mawson，1882年5月5日—1958年10月14日）是澳大利亞地質學家、南極探險家及學者。他與羅爾德·阿蒙森、羅伯特·史考特和歐內斯特·沙克爾頓爵士同為南極探險英雄年代（英語：Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration）的主要探險隊隊長。並以他的名字命名了位於澳大利亞南極領地的莫森站。

早年生活

1882年5月5日，羅伯特·埃利斯·莫森（Robert Ellis Mawson）與瑪格麗特·安·摩爾（Margaret Ann Moore）於希普利（英語：Shipley, West Yorkshire）生下莫森。在他不到兩歲時，全家便移民到澳大利亞並定居於現今位於雪梨西部郊區的魯蒂山（英語：Rooty Hill, New South Wales）。他曾就讀於堡壘街中學和雪梨大學，並於1902年畢業，獲得工程學學士學位^[2]。

早期工作

1903年，他被任命為前往新赫布里底群島（現為萬那杜）探險隊的地質學家，他的報告《新赫布里底群島的地質》（The Geology of the New Hebrides）是美拉尼西亞最早的主要地質著作之一。同年，他在新南威爾斯州米塔貢（英語：Mittagong）發表了地質學論文。他的地質職業生涯主要是受到埃奇沃思·大衛（英語：Edgeworth David）與阿奇博爾德·利弗西奇（英語：Archibald Liversidge）的影響。1905年，他成為阿德雷得大學岩石學與礦物學講師^[2]。他首先確立並描述了鑭鈾鈦鐵礦^[3]。
