牙買加克里奧爾語主要以口頭語言的形式存在,不過大量用於音樂創作,尤其是在雷鬼、舞場雷鬼(英語:dancehall)以及其他流派中。儘管在牙買加大多數書面語中都使用標準的英式英語,但將近一百年來,牙買加方言也不斷以文學語言的形式出現。克勞德·麥凱於1912年出版了他的牙買加詩集《牙買加之歌》(Songs of Jamaica)。[8]
