哈格斯特朗获得了卑尔根大学、挪威经济与工商管理学院、挪威科技大学、布里斯托尔大学、爱丁堡大学、格拉斯哥大学和俄亥俄州立大学的荣誉博士学位。俄亥俄州立大学荣誉学位附带的表彰指出,“他在1950年代和1960年代开展的创新传播工作,继续被引用为衡量当下研究的标准”,并且“这位杰出的个人......启发了世界各地的一代学者。”
