驾崩

由于烟瘾且二战期间操烦国事，乔治六世患有肺癌、动脉硬化以及血栓闭塞性脉管炎。乔治于1951年9月23日进行了肺部切除手术（英语：Pneumonectomy）后不曾完全康复。1952年2月5日，乔治与家人在桑德灵厄姆宫用餐后，于晚上10时30分入睡。次日早上7时30分，乔治被发现已在睡梦中驾崩。之后此消息也以“海德公园角”为代号，经由电话传达至白金汉宫。

葬礼

1952年2月15日，国王乔治六世的葬礼在圣乔治礼拜堂举行，初葬圣乔治礼拜堂内之皇家墓室，后迁葬乔治六世纪念礼拜堂。其遗孀伊丽莎白王太后、长女伊丽莎白二世及次女玛格丽特公主、长女婿菲利普亲王后来相继葬入乔治六世纪念礼拜堂。
