歷史
中統初年，「茫施蠻」內附元朝[1]，元王朝在金齒地區設置了金齒等處宣撫司，至元八年（1271年）宣撫司分路，茫施位於東路安撫使境內，十二年（1275年）改稱鎮康路安撫使[2]。十三年（1276年）從鎮康路劃出，置茫施路，隸宣撫司[1]。茫施路在柔遠路之南、怒江之西，位於騰衝府東南四日里程[2]。茫施路轄有兩個「甸」[2]。
元緬戰爭後，元朝軍隊與行政官員退回內地，鄰近的麓川路孟卯政權開始大規模擴張，茫施路實際屬於麓川這一地方政權管理，元末已擺脫中央政府自治一方[3]。明朝在此設置有芒施府。
