轉續宿主

轉續宿主（paratenic host）是指被某些寄生蟲的幼蟲侵入後寄生蟲不能發育為成蟲、但能存活並長期維持幼蟲狀態的非適宜宿主。只有當這些寄生蟲其侵入適宜宿主體內時，才能發育為成蟲。^[1][2]轉續宿主在寄生蟲生命周期中起到橋樑作用，彌補生態或食物鏈中的空隙。^[3]如犬錐蟲（T. canis）在宿主間傳遞時，除非宿主是犬科動物，否則不會發生任何發育，這些能夠使能犬錐蟲存活並長期維持幼蟲狀態的宿主即為轉續宿主。^[4]對於衛氏並殖吸蟲（Paragonimus westermani），其適宜宿主為人、犬等，1975發現因生食野豬肉導致衛氏並殖吸蟲感染的病例後，研究確定野豬為衛氏並殖吸蟲的轉續宿主。^[5][1]
