生平
王利明1981年12月畢業於湖北財經學院（後分立為中南財經大學和中南政法學院）法律系，獲學士學位；1984年12月畢業於中國人民大學法律系，獲法學碩士學位。畢業後在人民大學任教，1987年至1990年在本校法律系攻讀民法學博士，1990年6月畢業，成為中華人民共和國培養的第一位民法學博士，其間於1989年至1990年間在美國密歇根大學進修。
2005年底擔任中國人民大學法學院院長。2009年擔任中國人民大學黨委副書記兼副校長，2020年9月卸任。
