氧化鐦是一種黃綠色固體,熔點 1750 °C[1]。它是體心立方晶系的,晶格參數為 a = 1083.9 ± 0.4 pm。[3][4] 立方和單斜的 Cf2O3 的轉變溫度為 1400 °C。[5]
它的標準生成焓在 25 °C 是 −1652.6 ± 10.3 kJ•mol−1。[2]
它可以用來製作 252Cf-中子源。首先,252Cf(III) 會被做成草酸鹽 (Cf2(C2O4)3) ,然後分解形成氧化鐦。[6]
