關於植物羊的稱謂有很多，如英文中的「韃靼植物羊羔」（Vegetable Lamb of Tartary或Tartar Lamb）、土生羊（earth born sheep）、斯基泰羊羔（The Scythian lamb）、Chinese lycopodium、敘利亞羊羔（syrian lamb）、水羊（water sheep）、Barometz、植生羊（planted sheep），拉丁文中的Agnus scythicus 、Planta Tartarica Barometz 等。
