會厭

會厭(epiglottis、會厭軟骨)是覆蓋了一層黏膜組織的軟骨,和舌根部相連,位於舌頭及舌骨稍微偏上的後方。人們通常容易將會厭或者扁桃體這兩個詞誤認為是小舌[2]。

會厭形狀如同一帶柄的樹葉,柄部在下。其扼守着聲門的入口,而聲門指的是喉嚨中聲帶之間的位置。在平常呼吸的時候,會厭會朝上打開(柄在下,葉在上),露出聲門,此時其下半部是咽的一部分。但在吞咽的時候,則因為舌骨的提升而導致會厭下降並蓋住喉嚨,此時其上半部為咽的一部分。這種行為可以阻止食物被錯誤的投遞入氣管當中,而是被正確的投遞到咽喉中處於後半部分咽後面的食管當中。
醫學意義
反射作用
到達會厭上部的舌咽神經纖維,會發起強烈的嘔吐反射。而到達其下部的迷走神經喉分支則會發起咳嗽反射[3]。
感染
小孩偶然會因為氣管感染流感嗜血桿菌或鏈球菌而導致會厭上的嚴重炎症反應,這成為會厭炎。
