生平
1928年生於倫敦哈克尼的一個猶太人家庭。1946年進入劍橋大學三一學院學習醫學，師從艾倫·霍奇金（1963年諾貝爾生理學或醫學獎得主）。隨後在倫敦大學學院學習三年的臨床醫學，並在中央米德爾塞克斯醫院內科實習。1953年又回到劍橋大學三一學院，在艾倫·霍奇金實驗室攻讀博士，1956年完成博士學位。他主要從事鈉鉀泵研究[2]。1970年當選英國皇家學會會士[3]。1980年至1986年，擔任劍橋大學三一學院副院長。1986年開始擔任劍橋大學生理學教授[4]。1989年當選歐洲科學院院士[5]。1995年退休，成為名譽教授。2022年7月7日在家中逝世[6][7]。
