生平
約翰·威廉斯生於澳大利亞墨爾本，父親是英國人，母親是澳洲華裔，墨爾本律師麥錫祥之女。曾師從結他大師安德烈斯·塞戈維亞（Andrés Segovia），並曾在倫敦的皇家音樂學院學習鋼琴（由於該院沒有結他專業）。畢業後，他得到學校的邀請創立結他專業，並執教兩年。
