玻璃化是植物幼苗在生長過程中出現的一種類似水浸的半透明化的生理畸形現象[1]。在組織培養過程中發生玻璃化會導致幼苗發育不良、分化能力低下以及難以成活等症狀[1]。玻璃化現象最早是在1964年進行石竹(Dianthus caryophyllus)莖尖組織培養時發現的[2]。1981年才提出了「玻璃化」（Hyperhydricity）一詞[3]。
