生平
1963年、1966年先後取得北京大學數學力學系本科和碩士學位。曾在洛陽市第十五中學和洛陽市師範學校任教。1979年3月進入鄭州大學擔任數學系教師，歷任副教授、系主任和教授。1987年2月任鄭大副校長。1994年8月至2002年9月任鄭州大學校長，2003年1月任河南省政協副主席。

研究
他主要從事微分方程特徵值理論、孤立子與可積動力系統等方向的研究。
