該基因編碼含有死亡效應結構域(DED)的蛋白質。DED是程序性細胞死亡途徑的銜接子、調節子和執行子共享的蛋白質相互作用域。該基因的過度表達被證明可誘導微弱的細胞凋亡。在刺激作用下,發現該蛋白從細胞質易位到細胞核,並與UBTF共定位在核仁中,UBTF是RNA聚合酶I轉錄所需的基礎因子。該基因至少有三種編碼相同蛋白質的轉錄變體。[8]
