生卒年不詳。七歲讀書知大義，十歲能寫詩文，宋太祖乾德四年（966年）丙寅科狀元，歷官濮州、博州從事，遷保靜軍節度推官。
李肅嗜酒，因濫飲而卒，年僅三十三歲。著有《代周顒答北山移文》、《吊幽憂子文》、《病雞賦》等篇。
