天貓座

天貓座是北天星座，約翰·赫維留17世紀後期率先指定，拉丁語原名「Lynx」意指山貓。天貓座較為黯淡，比較亮的幾顆恆星組成鋸齒狀線條，其中又以橙巨星軒轅四最亮，半規則變星天貓座Y是業餘天文學家的熱門觀測目標。人類在天貓座六個恆星系發現行星，其中八穀增廿八與HD 758。

1687年，波蘭天文學家約翰·赫維留把大熊座和御夫座間19顆原屬廢棄星座約旦河座的恆星劃為新星座，並因這些恆星光芒黯淡而以山貓命名，意指未來只有長着山貓般利眼的後輩才能看到。赫維留在星表以「Tigris」（「老虎」）命名星座，但星圖仍保留山貓之名。英格蘭天文學家約翰·佛蘭斯蒂德1712年出版的星表和後來發布的星圖均收錄天貓座。^{[1]:202–203}19世紀業餘天文學家理查德·欣克利·艾倫（Richard Hinckley Allen）認為，天貓座的主要恆星「可能曾被現代劃分大熊座的人（不論何人）用來填齊大熊座的四條腿」^[2]。

簡介

天貓座可用肉眼識別

天貓座北靠鹿豹座、西接御夫座、西南挨雙子座、南臨巨蟹座、東鄰獅子座、東北與大熊座交界，共占據545.4度夜空，占1.322%，在88個現代星座排第28位^[3]，超過雙子座等許多更有名的星座^[4]。1922年，國際天文聯會確定以三字母縮寫「Lyn」代表天貓座^[5]。比利時天文學家尤金·德爾波特1930年正式劃分星座邊界^[6]，天貓座呈20條邊組成的多邊形（見文首信息框）；星座在赤道坐標系統的赤經位於06^h 16^m 13.76^s至09^h 42^m 50.22^s之間，赤緯在+32.97°到+61.96°之間^[7]。星座中比較亮的恆星在夜空組成彎曲線條，在鹿豹座和小熊座間延伸^[8]，位於明亮的北河二北側^[2]。北半球在冬末到第二年夏末比較容易看到天貓座，午夜中天在1月20日^[8]。南緯28度線以北都能看到完整天貓座^{[注 1]}。

英格蘭天文學家弗朗西斯·貝利用拜耳命名法只為軒轅四分配希臘字母，佛蘭斯蒂德共為44顆恆星編號，其中許多位於大熊座邊界^{[1]:433–434}。天貓座共有97顆恆星亮度達到或超過6.5視星等^{[注 2][3]}。

天貓座以3.14視星等的軒轅四最亮^[10]，是光譜等級K7III的橙巨星，離地203±2光年^[11]。軒轅四質量約有太陽兩倍^[12]，核心的氫已耗盡並結束主序星階段。該星已經膨脹到約55倍太陽半徑，發出673倍太陽光度。恆星大氣層已冷卻，表面溫度3880開爾文。^[13]天貓座只有上台增四有專有名稱「Alsciaukat」，源自阿拉伯語，本意「刺」，又稱「天貓座31」，距地球380±10光年^[11]。上台增四也是巨星，質量也在太陽兩倍左右，核心的氫耗盡後膨脹並冷卻，直徑約為太陽59到75倍，光度740倍^[12]。上台增四還是變星，基準亮度4.25視星等，以25到30天周期在0.05視星等幅度變化^[14]。

天貓座富含雙星^[2]。星座第二亮恆星是3.8視星等的軒轅三，以中型望遠鏡可以看到其中兩顆星體，分別是3.9視星等的藍白星與6.1視星等的黯淡星體^[15]。八穀增卅也是需用望遠鏡辨別的雙星，離地178±2光年^[11]；兩顆都呈淡黃色，分別是4.7與5.8視星等，相距0.9弧秒^[15]。偏亮的黃巨星光譜等級G8III，質量約為太陽4.01倍，偏暗的是黃白主序星，光譜等級F8V，約3.73倍太陽質量，兩星圍繞彼此旋轉，公轉周期262年^[16]。天貓座12距地球210±10光年^[11]，合併亮度4.87視星等，用望遠鏡觀察可以分辨三顆星體，其中兩顆分別為5.4和6.0視星等，以1.8弧秒角距離分隔（1992年測量值），第三顆是7.2視星等的黃色恆星，相隔8.6弧秒（1990年測量值）^[15][17]。前兩顆星估計以七百到九百年公轉周期圍繞彼此旋轉^[16]。

3.97視星等的軒轅一是天貓座第三亮恆星，原屬相鄰的大熊座，1930年星座邊界正式劃定後歸入天貓座^[18]，離地52.4±0.6光年^[11]。用望遠鏡觀察可以看到其中包含光譜等級F4V的4.11視星等黃白主序星，以及光譜等級G5V、非常類似太陽的6.18視星等恆星。兩星間隔10.6天文單位^{[注 3]}，以21.78年公轉周期相互圍繞旋轉^[19]。座旗二原屬御夫座，後劃入天貓座；天貓座37、天貓座39、上台增七和天貓座44後劃入大熊座^[1]:433–34。

半規則變星天貓座Y是業餘天文學家的熱門觀測目標，亮度在6.2到8.9視星等範圍變化^[20]。亮度變化周期複雜，按恆星脈衝變化周期是110天，還有1400天的長周期，估計是恆星自轉或對流層的規律周期^[21]。天貓座Y是紅超巨星，質量約為太陽1.5到2倍，直徑約580倍，光度約2.5萬倍^[20]。八穀增廿一和天貓座UX都是紅巨星兼半規則變星，而且亮度波動都很複雜^[21]。

人類在天貓座六個恆星系發現系列行星，其中兩個以都卜勒光譜學法發現，四個採用系外行星偵測法。橙次巨星八穀增廿八形成至今大部分時間是A類或F類主序星，擁有質量下限2.4倍木星質量，軌道周期899天的行星。^[22]HD 75898是光譜等級G0V的黃色恆星，已有38±8億年歷史，剛結束主序星階段並開始膨脹和冷卻。該星周圍有2.51倍木星質量的行星，軌道周期418天。恆星系的質量中心在加速，表明其中還有至少木星尺寸但間隔遙遠的第三顆星體。^[23]夏威夷的XO望遠鏡發現三個恆星系內行星從恆星前方經過，從而確定這些恆星系有系外行星。XO-2是聯星系統，兩顆恆星質量和溫度都略低於太陽，而且都伴有行星。XO-2S的行星質量接近土星，與恆星距離0.13天文單位，公轉周期僅有約18天；另一顆行星距恆星0.48天文單位，質量略超木星，軌道周期約120天。^[24]XO-2N的行星是熱木星，質量約為木星一半，公轉周期僅2.6天^[25]。XO-4是F類主序星，質量和溫度略超太陽，行星同樣是熱木星，軌道周期約4.1天^[26]。XO-5是類似太陽的恆星，有質量與木星差不多的熱木星行星，公轉周期約4.2天^[27]。WASP-13也是類太陽恆星，已從主序星階段開始膨脹和冷卻，2009年的超廣角尋找行星計劃發現行星從附近經過。行星質量約為木星一半，軌道周期只有4.35天。^[28]

深空天體

NGC 2419

NGC 2419又稱「星系浪子」，是天貓座最有名的深空天體，估計位於銀河系以外，離地27.5至30萬光年，是已知距離非常遙遠的球狀星團，很可能以非常扁平的橢圓軌道圍銀河系旋轉^[29]。NGC 2419是夏普力二型星團，亮度10.3視星等，表明星團質量基本集中在中心位置。人類曾誤以為NGC 2419是恆星，後經美國天文學家卡爾·蘭普蘭（Carl Lampland）的發現糾正^[30]。

NGC 2537又稱熊掌系，在上台增四西北偏北約三度^[31]，是距地球1700至3000萬光年的藍色緻密矮星系。NGC 2537附近的IC 2233螺旋星系非常扁平且薄，離地2600至4000萬光年。IC 2233頗為寧靜，平均每20年形成的恆星還不足一顆，人類曾長期誤以為該系與熊掌系相互影響，但甚大天線陣的觀測數據基本排除上述可能，兩星系距離相當遙遠。^[32]

NGC 2841星系群位於天貓座與相鄰的大熊座之間，其中的NGC 2541、NGC 2500和NGC 2552三個鬆散星系位於天貓座範圍。以NGC 2541的造父變星為宇宙距離尺度估算，NGC 2541距星系群還有約四千萬光年^[33]。NGC 2841星系位於大熊座^[34]。

NGC 2770是離地約8800萬光年的SASc類螺旋星系，擁有SN 1999eh、SN 2007uy與SN 2008D三顆Ib類超新星^[35]。SN 2008D是人類通過探測形成早期X射線發現的第一顆超新星，這樣就能及時準備在第一時間觀察爆發，而不是等到爆發後觀察超新星發出的光。估計NGC 2770與伴侶星系相互影響生成大質量恆星，進而引起超新星爆發。^[36]UGC 4904離地約7700萬光年，日本業餘天文學家板垣浩一2004年10月20日在該星系發現假超新星。光譜觀測表明該星在兩年間損失大量物質，從高光度藍變星轉變成沃爾夫–拉葉星^[37][38]，後在2006年10月11日爆發成SN 2006jc極超新星^[39]。

1998年發現的類星體APM 08279+5255距離非常遙遠，當時是人類發現光度最大的天體，吸收譜線很寬。星體與地球間有星系相隔，光線經過星系時受引力透鏡影響放大並分裂成眾多圖像。^[40]估計該天體是巨形橢圓星系，包含230億倍太陽質量的超大質量黑洞，黑洞還有直徑達3600光年的吸積盤。星系包含大範圍熱塵埃與分子氣體，還有星暴活躍區，紅移3.911。^{[41][注 4]}2008年，天文學家利用歐洲空間局XMM-牛頓衛星和亞利桑那州大雙筒望遠鏡觀察類星體時發現巨大的星系團2XMM J083026+524133^[42][43]。

1999年發現的天貓座超星系團紅移1.26至1.27^[44]，是已知離地最遠的超星系團^[45]，由RX J0849+4452（又稱天貓座E）和RX J0848+4453（又稱天貓座W）兩大星系團與眾多小星系團組成^[45]。天貓弧範圍內、離地約120億光年（紅移3.357）的遙遠地帶包含一百萬顆極高溫的年輕藍色恆星，表面溫度八至十萬開爾文，達銀河系類似恆星兩倍。天貓弧是宇宙早期產物，當時「恆星大量誕生」現象更為常見，人類只能通過近距離星系團的引力透鏡作用觀測。^[46]

流星雨

天貓座九月流星雨是9月6日左右出現的小規模流星雨，但在歷史上更為顯著，中國曾在1037和1063年觀測並記載，朝鮮1560年記載^[47]。1971年，馬爾科姆·柯里（Malcolm Currie）發現天貓座α流星雨^[48]:198，每年12月10日至第二年1月3日出現^[48]:738。

注釋

1. 技術上來說天貓座部分位置會出現在南緯28度到57度線間地面線上方，但只高於地平線幾度的恆星無論通過何等手段都無法觀測^[3]。
2. 6.5視星等是肉眼在城鄉結合位置理想夜空條件下能看到的光線最微弱天體^[9]。
3. 天文單位是地球和太陽的間距。
