研究工作

古德曼和他的长期合作者理查德·M·波拉克（英语：Richard M. Pollack）共同提出“允许排列序列”和“布线图”等概念^[4]这些概念在离散几何学中，特别是在伪线排列和（更广泛地说）定向拟阵（英语：Oriented matroid）的研究中发挥了重要作用。他与波拉克的合作成果包括：关于多胞形阶类型数的第一个非难界值^[5]，以及哈德维格横向定理在高维度上的推广^[6]。他和波拉克是《离散与计算几何学（英语：Discrete & Computational Geometry）》杂志的创始编辑^[7]。
