自1959年首次亮相以来，摩纳哥已经参加了24场欧洲歌唱大赛。该国唯一一次参加比赛是在1971年，赛费琳表演了《长椅、树木、道路》（Un banc, un arbre, une rue）。1972年，摩纳哥原本打算举办比赛，但拒绝了。截至2021年，摩纳哥是唯一赢得比赛的微型国家。
摩纳哥在1959年的第一次比赛中获得最后一名，然后在20世纪60年代取得了三个前三名的成绩。其中两个是弗朗索瓦·德格勒，在1960年和1962年获得第三名及第二名。罗穆亚尔德·费吉也在1964年获得第三名。赛费琳在1971年的胜利是八年来五个前四名中的第一个。其他的则是罗穆亚尔德（1974年排名第四）、玛丽·鲁杰里（1976年排名第三）、 蜜雪儿托尔，1977年排名第四，科琳·索维奇和奥利维尔·图森，1978年排名第四。摩纳哥在1979年参加比赛后，连续25年缺席比赛。
摩纳哥是唯一一个在国内挑选所有参与者的国家。虽然一些国家会组织电视转播的全国总决赛，但人们认为，蒙地卡罗电视台没有足够的资金来组织全国总决赛。
摩纳哥从2004年到2006年连续三年重返决赛，但三次都未能获得决赛资格。蒙地卡罗电视台随后退出比赛，称比赛中的地方性投票模式实际上让摩纳哥没有资格进入决赛。[1][2]
