亚速海西鲱为辐鳍鱼纲鲱形目鲱科的其中一种，分布于马摩拉海、黑海、亚速海等海域，体长可达20公分，栖息在沿海半咸水水域或潟湖，为洄游性鱼类，繁殖期会进入淡水溪流产卵，属肉食性，以昆虫、浮游生物、小鱼等为食，可做为食用鱼。
