Vodafone Idea公司由英国沃达丰集团印度子公司及印度商人Kumar Birla（英语：Kumar Birla）旗下的Idea Cellular（英语：Idea_Cellular）公司合并而成立。

Idea Cellular和沃达丰印度公司的合并于2018年7月获得电信部的批准，合并于2018年8月31日完成^[8][9][10]。沃达丰集团持有合并后实体的45.2％的股份^[10]。
