通字方案

通字方案（英语：General Chinese）是由赵元任所设计的一套书写白话文与文言文的汉字与拼音方案。

通字是以官话、吴语、粤语、闽语为基础，从常用汉字中选取的2085字，用以书写白话文、文言文。其中多属正字，然亦不乏同音替代。通字还分为通字汉字和与之相配套的通字罗马字。

通字罗马字的拼法反映的方言特征有：吴语的声母，官话的元音、粤语的韵尾，吴、粤、闽、官的四声，以及闽语古舌上音知彻澄三母读塞音的特点。

通字汉字

通字汉字是通字的两种写法之一，简称GCC（即General Chinese Characters）。通字汉字共2085字。其选取规定主要依据如下原则：

• 使用现代通行的字形，如取“闸”不取“牐”。
• 一般将同源的无偏旁部首的字作为通字，取“反”不取“返”，取“申”不取“伸”。但是在多数方言中不同音时则分辨，如“宣”与“喧”，“古”和“苦”。
• 除了上述覆盖的规则外其他音节的字无论字源是否相同均写作一样的字，与六书中“假借”相仿。

声调

平声：

• 用韵母的基本形式

上声：

• 重复韵尾 ∅, -m, -n 前的最后一个元音
• 重复 iu 里的 u
• 把韵尾 -i, -u, -ng 分别改写为 -e, -o， -g

去声：

• 韵尾为 ∅ 时,加写 -h
• 把韵尾 -i, -u 分别改写为 -y, -w
• 重复韵尾 -n, -m
• 把韵尾 -ng 改写为 -q

入声：

• 由韵尾 -p, -t, -c 表示
