拉希腊语中，Υψιλον（Upsilon）曾经发作/u/（后来变成/y/，乃朝发作/i/）。罗马人直接借用了希腊语个Y，因为渠拉觉着V弗再完全相当于希腊语个/y/，并叫渠为"I graeca"("希腊个I")，造就出现代拉丁语系中"Y"个名字。
