Xudo Yangi Zelandiyani himoya qilsin (maori: „Aotearoa“, „Yangi Zelandiya“ degan maʼnoni anglatadi) Yangi Zelandiyaning ikkita milliy madhiyalaridan biri, ikkinchisi „Xudo qirolichani asrasin“. Qonuniy jihatdan ikkalasi teng maqomga ega, ammo „Xudo Yangi Zelandiyani himoya qiladi“ koʻproq qoʻllanadi. Dastlab sheʼr sifatida yozilgan, u 1876-yilda tanlov doirasida musiqaga qoʻyilgan. Yillar oʻtishi bilan uning mashhurligi ortib bordi va 1977-yilda ikkinchi milliy madhiya deb nomlandi. Unda ingliz va maori soʻzlari bor, maʼnolari biroz boshqacha. 1990-yillarning oxiridan boshlab, ommaviy tarzda ijro etilganda odatiy amaliyot milliy madhiyaning birinchi misrasini ikki marta, avval maori tilida, keyin esa ingliz tilida ijro etishdir.

Tarix

"Xudo Yangi Zelandiyani himoya qiladi" sheʼr sifatida 1870-yillarda irlandiyalik, Viktoriya davrida oʻsgan Dunedinlik immigrant Thomas Bracken tomonidan yozilgan.[1] Sheʼrga musiqa yozish uchun tanlov 1876-yilda The Saturday Advertiser tomonidan oʻtkazildi va Melburnning uchta taniqli musiqachilari tomonidan oʻn gvineya mukofoti bilan hakamlik qildi. Tanlov gʻolibi Lourens (Otago) shahridan boʻlgan vandemoniyalik John Joseph Woods boʻldi, u tanlov haqida bilib boʻlgach, kechqurun bir oʻtirishda musiqa bastalagan.[2] Qoʻshiq birinchi marta 1876-yil Rojdestvo kunida Dunedindagi Princes Streetdagi Qirolicha teatrida ijro etilgan. 1878-yil fevral oyida notalar nashr etildi.[3]

Qoʻshiqning maori tilidagi versiyasi 1878-yilda Oklendlik Thomas Henry Smith tomonidan, Bosh vazir George Edward Greying iltimosiga binoan, mahalliy sudning sudyasi tomonidan yaratilgan. Sarlavhasi uchun Aotearoa qoʻllangan maori tilidagi qoʻshiqning nusxasi 1878-yil oktabr oyida Otago gazetalarida chop etilgan. Smithning asl matnida „whakarangona“ soʻzi zamonaviy „whakarongona“ emas, balki „eshitish“ deb tarjima qilish uchun ishlatilgan.[3] A copy of the Māori lyrics, using Aotearoa for its title, was printed in Otago newspapers in October 1878.[4]

1.

God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific’s triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

E Ihowā Atua,
O ngā iwi mātou rā
Āta whakarangona;
Me aroha noa
Kia hua ko te pai;
Kia tau tō atawhai;
Manaakitia mai
Aotearoa

Men of every creed and race,
Gather here before Thy face,
Asking Thee to bless this place,

And corruption guard our state,
Make our country good and great,
God defend New Zealand.

Kiri whero, kiri mā,
Iwi Māori, Pākehā,
Rūpeke katoa,
Nei ka tono ko ngā hē
Māu e whakaahu kē,

May all our wrongs, we pray,
Be forgiven

Peace, not war, shall be our boast,
But, should foes assail our coast,
Make us then a mighty host,
God defend our free land.
Lord of battles in Thy might,
Put our enemies to flight,
Let our cause be just and right,
God defend New Zealand.

Tōna mana kia tū
Tōna kaha kia ū;
Tōna rongo hei pakū
Ki te ao katoa
Aua rawa ngā whawhai
Ngā tutū e tata mai;

Meinga kia kore kau;
Waiho i te rongo mau

Be ever enlightened
Throughout the land
Circling here
Let envy and dissension
Be dispelled,
Let peace reign over

May our mountains ever be
Freedom’s ramparts on the sea,
Make us faithful unto Thee,
God defend our free land.

Preaching love and truth to man,
Working out Thy glorious plan,
God defend New Zealand.

Tōna pai me toitū
Tika rawa, pono pū;
Tōna noho, tāna tū;
Iwi nō Ihowā.
Kaua mōna whakamā;
Kia hau te ingoa;
Kia tū hei tauira;
Aotearoa

Let its good features endure,
Let righteousness and honesty prevail
Be standing, be sitting
Among the people of God
Let it never be ashamed,
But rather, let its name be known
Thereby becoming the model to emulate
Aotearoa
