Nihongi (日本紀) veya Nihonşoki (日本書紀, [Japonya Tarihi][1]), Antik Japonya'nın tarihine dair yazılmış ikinci en eski eserdir. Bu konuda yazılmış en eski metin olan Kojiki'nin bir yorumu niteliğinde olup, Kojiki'ye oranla daha ayrıntılı ve tam bir tarihi içeriğe sahiptir. 720 yılında bitirilmiştir.[2] Şintoizm'in kutsal metinlerindendir.
Metinde Jimmu'nun Kyūshū'daki Hyūga eyaletinden hareket etmesinden günümüz Kansai bölgesindeki Yamato eyaletini fethederek Kashihara-gū Sarayı'nda (günümüzde Kashihara Jingū tapınağı) tahta çıkmasına kadarki olayları anlatılmaktadır.
Kojiki gibi, Nihongi de mitolojik hikâyeler ile başlar, ama tarihi olaylar ile devam eder. Ayrıca, erdemli yöneticilerin değerleri ve başarılarıyla, kötü yöneticilerin hatalarına odaklanan bilgiler sunar.[3]
