มอแซนแดรอน (مازندرانی) หรือ แทแบรี (طبری)[1] เป็นภาษากลุ่มอิหร่านในสาขาตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือที่พูดโดยชาวมอแซนแดรอน ข้อมูลเมื่อ 2021[update] มีผู้พูดภาษาแม่มากกว่า 5,320,000 คน[2] ถึงแม้ว่าภาษาเปอร์เซียมีอิทธิพลต่อภาษามอแซนแดรอนอย่างมาก ภาษานี้ยังคงอยู่รอดในฐานะภาษาอิสระที่มีต้นกำเนิดจากอิหร่านตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือ[3][4]

ภาษามอแซนแดรอนมีความใกล้ชิดกับภาษาคิเลกี และทั้งสองภาษามีคำศัพท์คล้ายกัน[5] โดยมีคุณสมบัติประเภทของกลุ่มภาษาคอเคซัส[6][7][8] สะท้อนถึงประวัติศาสตร์, อัตลักษณ์ชาติพันธุ์ และความใกล้ชิดกับภูมิภาคคอเคซัสและชาวคอเคซัสของชาวมอแซนแดรอนกับชาวคิเลกี[9][10]
ชื่อภาษามาจากชื่อของบริเวณนี้ในอดีตคือมอแซนแดรอนซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของราชอาณาจักรตาปูเรียในอดีต ชาวบ้านเรียกภาษาของตนว่าภาษาแทแบรี[11]
ในบรรดาภาษากลุ่มอิหร่านที่ยังเหลืออยู่ ภาษามอแซนแดรอนมีประวัติการเขียนที่ยาวนานเริ่มตั้งแต่พุทธศตวรรษที่ 15 -20 ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการที่มาซันดารานเป็นรัฐอิสระอีกหลายศตวรรษหลังการรุกรานของชาวอาหรับ[12] มีวรรณคดีที่สำคัญมาก เช่น Marzban Nameh (แปลเป็นภาษาเปอร์เซียแล้ว) การใช้ภาษามอแซนแดรอนในปัจจุบันเริ่มน้อยลง เนื่องจากได้รับอิทธิพลจากภาษาเปอร์เซียแ ละผู้พูดภาษานี้พยายามกลมกลืนเข้ากับผู้พูดภาษาเปอร์เซีย บทบาททางด้านวรรณคดีและการปกครองถูกแทนที่ด้วยภาษาเปอร์เซีย ซึ่งเป็นเพราะถูกผนวกเข้ากับอิหร่านตั้งแต่พุทธศตวรรษที่ 22
