Pašie (z lat. Passio – trpieť) sú v Rímskokatolíckej cirkvi časti jedného zo štyroch kanonických Evanjelií, ktoré hovoria o Kristovom zajatí, utrpení, ukrižovaní a pochovaní. Sú neoddeliteľnou súčasťou liturgie Kvetnej nedele a liturgie Veľkého piatku. V Rímskokatolíckej cirkvi sa používa dramatický prednes. Pašie prednášajú traja muži. Jeden prednáša reč evanjelistu (autora), druhý reč ostatných a tretí reč Kristovu. Pašie sa obyčajne prednášajú spevom, ak však nie je prítomný dostatočný počet spevákov, je možné ich aj čítať. Ak sa prednesu Pašií zúčastňuje kňaz, je treba mu prenechať Kristove slová. V krajnom prípade môže Pašie čítať aj kňaz sám (vtedy zastupuje všetkých troch prednášajúcich) [1].
Pašie sa čítajú namiesto Evanjelia. Veriaci počas nich stoja. Kniha sa však neznačí krížom, ani nebozkáva. Jedine diakon (ak je prítomný a prednáša Pašie), žiada požehnanie od biskupa.
Pašie na Kvetné nedele sú rozdelené na dlhší a kratší variant, možno využiť ten, ktorý podľa pastoračnej i časovej možnosti určí kňaz. Pašie na Veľký piatok nemajú dlhší a kratší variant, prednášajú sa vždy celé. Po Pašiách má nasledovať krátka homília (kázeň).
Pašie ako také sú už oddávna inšpiráciou v umení. Týka sa to hudby aj výtvarného umenia, sochárstva, rezbárstva a ostatných umeleckých disciplín.
Hudobný skladateľ Johann Sebastian Bach bol len neznámy evanjelický organista a cirkevný skladateľ v období baroka. Jeho Matúšove Pašie ostali zabudnuté takmer 100 rokov, tak ako on sám, až kým ich v roku 1829 neuviedol hudobný skladateľ Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.[3] Tým Bacha akoby „znovu objavil“ a postupne sa objavili aj jeho ostatné diela.
