Vidlový hrebeň (iné názvy: Hrebeň Vidlových veží, Hrebeň vidiel, Vidly ;poľ. Widły, Grań Wideł, nem. Gabelgrat, Gabelspitzen, maď. Villagerinc, Villacsúcsok) je skupina strmých skalných veží, ktorých hrebeň spája Lomnický štít s Kežmarským štítom vo Vysokých Tatrách. Podľa mnohých znalcov Tatier je to jeden z najkrajších tatranských hrebeňov. Od Lomnického štítu ho oddeľuje Medená štrbina a od Kežmarského štítu Kežmarská štrbina. Hrebeň je vyhľadávaný horolezcami. Hrebeň rozdeľuje Skalnatú dolinu od Veľkej Zmrzlej doliny a Medenej kotliny.[1]
Pomenovanie vychádza zo siluety hrebeňa. Jednotlivé veže na hrebeni boli pomenované až vtedy, keď sa hrebeň stal zaujímavý pre športových horolezcov. Spoločný názov pre hrebeň sa však objavuje už v Buchholtzovej panoráme Tatier z roku 1717 v latinskom znení Turis (veže), resp. v nemeckej mutácii Käsmarker Thürme (Kežmarské veže). V čase, keď názov Vidiel – Gabel platil ešte všeobecne ako spoločné pomenovanie Lomnického štítu a Kežmarského štítu, použil Kristián Genersich roku 1807 v štúdii Reise in die Carpathen prvýkrát pomenovanie Gabel ako názov pre Vidlový hrebeň.[1]
Iné vysvetlenie ponúka túto verziu: Na mape Buchholtzovcov sú Vidlové veže pomenované ako Cupri (Kopertuyrme) teda Medené veže. Malo to historický základ, lebo v ich oblasti na severnej strane baníci dolovali medenú rudu a hľadali zlato. Iný, možno neskorší názov, mal zrejme podobu Falkturyme – Veže, na ktorých sa ťaží (základ v slovese fal, falen), ktorý sa postupne dostal do podoby Folk, dokonca až Forkturyme. V stredovekej nemčine slovo fork znamenalo vidličku alebo vidly.[2]
