At around 1 a.m. EDT on June 24, 2021, Champlain Towers South, a 12-story beachfront condominium building in the Miami suburb of Surfside, Florida, United States, partially collapsed.

97 people were killed. Eleven more were injured or taken to the hospital.[1][2] At least 8 people remain missing.[3][4]
No cause for the collapse has been released but several theories were considered including sinkholes, construction defects, terrorism and roof repairs.[5]
