The sitar (English: /ˈsɪtɑːr/ or /sɪˈtɑːr/; Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Lang/configuration' not found., Punjabi: ਸਿਤਾਰ, Urdu: ستار Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Lang/configuration' not found. pronounced [sɪˈtaːr]) is a plucked string instrument. It uses sympathetic strings along with a long hollow neck and a gourd resonating chamber to make a rich sound with complex harmonic resonance. It has been used throughout South Asia for many centuries. Sitar is traditionally said to have been invented by the Sufi singer Amir Khosrow.[1]
