Shaivonte Aician Gilgeous-Alexander (/ʃeɪ ˈɡɪldʒəs/ SHAY GIL-jəss; born July 12, 1998) is a Canadian basketball player. He plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
On May 21, 2025, Gilgeous-Alexander was named as the NBA Most Valuable Player. He was only the second Canadian player after Steve Nash in 2005 and 2006 to win the award.[1]

National team
Gilgeous-Alexander plays for the Canada men's national basketball team. He played for them during the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023. During the tournament, he helped Canada defeat France, Germany, and World champions Spain to help Canada clinch a spot in the Olympics for the first time since 2000.[2] Canada would defeat the United States to win the bronze medal. It was Canada's first international medal since 1936.[3] He was named to the World Cup All-Tournament Team and also won the 2023 Northern Star Award as Canada's athlete of the year.[4][5]

Personal life
Gilgeous-Alexander married his girlfriend Hailey Summers in February 2024 and they had their first child Ares in April 2024.[6][7]
Gilgeous-Alexander has a cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who also plays in the NBA.[8]
