History

King Norodom Sihanouk held the position in March 1945 during the time when Cambodia was a French protectorate. Sihanouk worked with Imperial Japan and declared independence from France on March 12, 1945. On 18 March, he said that he was the Prime Minister of Cambodia and formed the first government. It lasted until August 1945, when Sun Ngoc Thanh took the position.

The CPP-FUNCINPEC coalition of 1993 made it so that Hun Sen and Prince Norodom Ranariddh were both Prime Minister.
